On 18 October 2021, an extensive exercise of units of the integrated rescue system (IRS) took place at the central oil tank farm, the intention of which was to test the readiness of the units of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Central Bohemian Region and other IRS units, as well as part of the external emergency plan for the emergency planning zone of the central oil tank farm.
The focus of the exercise was the extinguishing of a large-scale fire in tank H13, in which 125,000 m3 of crude oil, a Class I flammable liquid, are stored. The fire was caused by lightning, with fumes in the tank subsequently exploding, and the roof of the tank collapsing.
During the exercise, special technical equipment was used – two large-volume mobile Ambassador monitor trailers, which are intended for extinguishing this type of fire, and which were purchased by MERO ČR, a.s. At the same time, the effectiveness and functionality of the unified warning and notification system (siren function) in the surrounding municipalities was also tested. Over seventy firefighters of the fire and rescue services of the Central Bohemian Region from stations in Kladno, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Mělník, Neratovice, Rakovník, Roztoky, and Slaný, as well as the fire and rescue services of the company SYNTHOS Kralupy, a.s., took part in the exercise. The Police of the Czech Republic and, of course, employees of MERO ČR, a.s., also participated.
